We have a new Pope

We have a new pope! I'm so excited. I got to watch the smoke stack puff white smoke, hear the bells ring out, watch the curtains rustle and billow, hear the announcement of "We have a Pope", and hear the Pope speak for the first time.

Our new Pope is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76 years old, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is the first Pope in over 1000 years to come from outside Europe. He is the first Pope from the Americas. He is the first Jesuit Pope. He has chosen the name Francis after St. Francis of Assisi. He is a humble man, outspoken in his faith on sexual morality. Very conservative. He rides the bus, sleeps in a small apartment (rather than the Bishop's palace), and cooks his own meals.

I really am hoping for a new leaf in drawing Catholicism to it's roots. The media is vicious right now. The whole time they were airing the Pope's presentation they were flashing horrible things and speculations about the new Pope. So negative and without proof. It would be like when President Obama accepted the presidency and they were streaming on the screen every dubious relationship, and dirt they could dig up. If that isn't a way of making you dislike someone, I don't know what is. I'm glad I don't watch much mainstream media.

Hurray for our new Pope Francis! May God bless you and the Holy Spirit Guide you.
